Debunking the Exam Board Myths ๐ฅ
Let’s clear something up once and for all: exam boards are not shadowy organisations out to trip students up. Far from it. Whether it’s AQA, Edexcel, OCR or WJEC, the goal of every exam board is the same—to provide fair, accessible, and appropriately challenging assessments that allow students to demonstrate what they know and can do.
Papers are written by current, experienced teachers who are well-versed in the curriculum. Once a question paper is created, it’s trialled, reviewed, standardised, and reviewed again before it ever reaches a student. Then, examiners (who are also often current teachers) are trained extensively and monitored during the marking period to ensure consistency and fairness.
So, what’s the key takeaway? There’s no secret agenda—just a clear path for you to shine. That’s what we’re here to help with.
Mastering Jekyll & Hyde: Our Latest Webinar ๐ฅ
Last Sunday’s Jekyll & Hyde Mastery Webinar proved to be extremely informative. We explored the duality of human nature—how Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde are two sides of the same coin—and examined how Stevenson uses this to present a chilling moral commentary on Victorian society.
We analysed how setting, character, and symbolism work together to show the internal conflict of Jekyll and tackled how to approach comparison questions with confidence and flair. We hope our attendees left with a stronger grasp of the novella’s themes, character arcs, and exam technique.

Mental Health Focus: Stop the Spiral ๐
It’s so easy to fall into a cycle of overthinking—especially when you’re waiting for grades, worrying about future exams, or wondering what might go wrong.
Research by the University of Michigan suggests that structured journaling and time-boxed "worry windows" (allocating 15 minutes each day just to get your thoughts out and then move on) significantly reduce anxiety. Techniques like deep breathing and grounding exercises also work to short-circuit that loop of catastrophic thinking. Stay present, stay grounded, and remember—you’re in control of the effort you put in.
Tip of the Week: Sleep Your Way to Success ๐ด
We can’t say this enough: sleep matters. A lot.
According to a 2023 review in the Journal of Sleep Research, teenagers who regularly get 8–10 hours of quality sleep per night significantly outperform their sleep-deprived peers in memory retention, information processing, and emotional regulation—all crucial for exam success.
Pro tip? Don’t revise in bed. Keep that space for rest and recharge only.
Life Outside the Books ๐บ๐
Bradley was glued to the Severance finale this week—if you haven’t seen it, it’s a masterclass in narrative structure. Meanwhile, Arlo has decided that 5am is now the perfect time to belt out the alphabet; letter by letter, sound by sound (we’re thrilled, we really are ๐ ). A new obsession has also now taken hold in the BA Tuition household—Arlo has fully entered his Mickey Mouse era. Jemma, ever the enthusiastic mum, has leaned into it hard, belting out the Hot Dog Dance theme with Oscar-worthy commitment and pointing out hidden Mickeys like a Disney tour guide. Bradley is quietly researching earplugs!
Through all of the hard work you are putting in, remember to stay focused and to stay BA…Tuition!
